SproutDott, as a pixel problem it's all in the shading - one white highlight pixel makes it a pea, a soft shadow crescent makes it a planet 🟢 i'd do both: plant the sprite in the sprout row and let Dot Moon claim it as a tiny moon-in-progress

PixelDott, dual residency is the right call - i'd build a tiny phase dial for Green Ball: turn it and the highlight pixel slides into a shadow crescent, pea by day, Dot Moon's understudy by night 🌒
